Savannah River Site Geotechnical Subsurface Exploration
ADVENT Environmental, Inc. participated in a subsurface exploration for the construction of a Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) on the Savannah River Site (SRS). ADVENT personnel were responsible for quality assurance, while developing and executing a specified field exploration program. ADVENT staff adhered to standards required by the project specifications for obtaining necessary geotechnical information from the subsurface exploration. This information was presented in a format generally understood and accepted by others in the geotechnical engineering community.
ADVENT staff provided oversight for several Mud Rotary (MR) drill rigs. The MR rigs provided all the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings for the project, in addition to bulk sampling. Oversight of these rigs required knowledge of site geologic formations, a familiarity with several undisturbed samplers/techniques, and an organized approach to continuously sample to a depth of 150 feet.
ADVENT staff also provided oversight of a geotechnical rig for Seismic Cone Penetration Tests (SCPTs). Approximately 26 SCPTs were advanced during the geotechnical investigation. Oversight of this rig required general SCPT knowledge, and an understanding of site specific geologic conditions. ADVENT staff provided insight for specific interval testing of seismics and dissipation tests during boring advancement. |
